Rules for Successful Ecommerce Websites

  • Make Sorting easy
    • Give ample options of sorting. For eg, Low to High, High to Low, Popularity, User Rating.
  • Easy to Remove Narrowing Options
    • Narrowing options help tremendously, but they should be easy to remove without having to leave the page. Customers hate clicking the back button and going to the previous pages to remove narrowing options.
  • Actual Costs & Saving
    • Customers always want to know what is the actual cost of the product and how much they are saving. Never leave out these important pieces of information.
  • Easily Accessible Search Bar
    • Even after the search has been performed, the search bar should be easily accessible so that the customers can modify their search without having to go back to the previous page.
  • Send a Order Conformation Email
    • Order conformation email with the product details and shipping information is a very piece of documentation for the customers.

Ways to Take Customer Service to the Next Level

Remember the worst customer service you’ve ever encountered. Did you go back? It shouldn’t be a surprise that most customers don’t.

Good customer services produces consumer loyalty. And in return, consumer loyalty produces consistent sales. As Mark Hayes says, “customers who receive bad customer service from an online store are highly unlikely to return, and even less likely to refer your business.”

For any online store, consider the unexpected significance of sending a handwritten thank you note or responding to customer complaints with generosity (say, a gift card). These both say to a customer, “We want your loyalty.” Good customer service lets a customer know that they are in good hands. You shouldn’t skip out on it, just because you’re behind a computer.

But, there are even more ways you can take customer service to the next level. Find out what Mark Hayes has to say in his 5 Ways to Take Customer Service to the Next Level blog entry at shopify.com/blog to learn more!
